Toolbox Talks Holidays

When we are approaching a holiday or long weekend, the excitement about time off can cause our minds to wander. “What will we do during our time off?” Let’s be honest, it’s a lot more fun to daydream about weekend plans than it is to focus intensely on your task, right? Your crew will struggle with this at times as well, so feel free to share these messages on toolbox talks holidays.

Toolbox Talks Holidays #1

It’s Almost Christmas – Stay Focused: The holiday season is upon us, and everyone is getting ready for the festive events. The excitement and anticipation sometimes causes us to daydream about the upcoming holiday, instead of on the task at hand. Most of the time, we seem to skate through winter stress-free. However, the majority of us will feel some type of stress over Christmas. It could be last minute holiday shopping, crowds at the malls, work schedule and the most dreaded of all…bills. We understand it’s a busy time of year for everyone, however, when you’re at work, please stay focused on the safe completion of your job. It only takes a second to become injured so please refrain from engaging in mental distractions associated with the upcoming holiday season.

Toolbox Talks Weekend Focus #2

Be Safe This Weekend While At Work: If you’re required to work on the weekends, sometimes you may feel like thinking about your weekend plans instead of focusing on your work. Daydreaming may seem harmless, but please remember that injuries can happen on Saturday and Sunday too. It is for this reason that you need to keep focused on the safe completion of your work. If you find that you’re having difficulty focusing on your task, try taking a short break to clear your head before resuming with your work. You can also try taking a safety pause and regroup before starting any task. Doing so will help ensure your mind is clear, and you can focus on safely completing your task. Please don’t take shortcuts or rush your work this weekend. Follow all safe work practices and procedures, and work safe!

Happy Easter Everyone – Remember to Stay Focused: This long Easter weekend can be filled with great times and good food, however, it’s important that we don’t let our thoughts distract us from focusing on the safe execution of work. While at work, it’s tempting to think about eating a home cooked meal and spending time with friends and family. Please keep your mind on the safe completion of your work. Don’t take dangerous shortcuts just to finish your work faster so you can get to your weekend plans earlier. Doing so could put you at risk of injury – and nobody wants to be spending this Easter long weekend in the hospital. Follow safe work practices and procedures, take your time, and do your work safely the first time. If you find yourself becoming distracted, take a short reset break to get your head back in the game.

Day of Mourning is on April 28: Every year on April 28, we pay our respects to (and remember) the thousands of workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents. We also honour the many families and friends who have been deeply impacted by these tragedies. Please remember that every worker has the right to return home safe and sound at the end of each work day. By working together – with employers, workers and our health and safety partners – we can prevent worker injuries and deaths before they occur. Please take some time on April 28 to remember those who were harmed while at work, and remind yourself to adhere to safe work practices and procedures that keep you safe. Remember why they are important, so you stay safe at work each and every day!
